In 1922 Abetone hosted first downhill competition in Italy, and in 1937 the first lift has been built there.
Since that time very fast Abetone became the most important ski resort in Central Italy, especially when three great champions from 40’s and 50’s Zeno Colò, Celina Seghi and Vittorio Chierroni scored Olympic trophies.
The popularity of the place is doubled by the convenient location near four towns: Pistoia, Bologna, Modena and Florence.
There are three ski areas that make Abetone Ski Area:
Selletta, Val di Luce and Monte Gomito – Puliccio where one can find the most famous run here – Zeno 3 2 600 m long, with 570m of level difference.
17 km from Abetone there is a ski area Cutigliano / Doganaccia with 5 lifts.
The ski pass Big Snow allows to ski also in nearby ski resorts of Corno ale Scale and of Cimone.
