Alta Badia is located in a large valley surrounded by the gorgeous peaks of the Dolomites.
At the beginning the sport life focused in Corvara in Badia (1568 m) and Colfosco (1645 m) at the feet of famous Sella group.
Later the ski area incorporated old ladin villages La Villa (1433 m), San Cassiano (1537 m) and Pedraces (1324 m),
and a bit farther situated La Valle/La Val (1353 m) and Pederoa (1324 m).
At present Alta Badia is a part of Dolomiti Superski and the ring around Sella Ronda gives direct access to neighboring
Val Gardena, Arabba/Marmolada and Val di Fassa ski areas.
About 90% of population speaks Ladin (old italian dialect) which is official language here along with Italian and German,
and often there are three names on the road signs.
Alta Badia in german is called Hohabeital, and the italian name La Valle changes into ladin La Val, while Austrians call it Wengen.
La Villa keeps the german name Stern.

The most demanding slopes are Gran Risa ( La Villa ) that frequently hosts World Cup ski races
