During millennium of its existence Cesana Torinese witnessed many of great historical events. Located on the ancient roman road connecting Pianura Padana with Galia.
Cesana witnessed movement of Hannibal and Caesar’s armies, later Spanish and French forces during Napoleon time.
In Middle Ages the road became important form both military and trade points of view, and the local communities formed Republic of Escartons with capital in Briançon, well advanced with rich and educated habitants. After the fall of the Republic in 18th century Cesana became the part of Kingdom of Savoia, later France, and finally Italy after the WWII.

The ski resort Cesana – Sansicario is located in the middle of ski area Vialattea which features 400 km of ski runs served by 88 modern ski lifts. The highest resort mountain Fraiteve ( 2701 m) has the ski connections with areas of Sestriere and Sauze d’Oulx. The new run Fraiteve prepared for Olympics, which descends from Fraiteve peak at 2700 m to village Sansicario 1700 m with predictable speed and angle changes, good both for professionals and the tourists. Another run that features numerous international events is red pista 72 in Sansicario.
In La Comba, Cesana ( 1360 m) there is the junction, where one ski lift leads to Sansicario, and the other goes in the opposite direction to Moon Mountains, Claviere and Montgenevre.

Due to the central position and the quality of slopes many of events of Winter Olympics wher held in Cesana : biathlon, various bobs and woman alpine ski competitions.

Between Cesana ( 1 360 m) and Sansicario ( 1 700 m) there are the buildings of new Olympic Centre , now popular for holding the conferences,
multifunctional Biathlon stadium opened for everybody with 4km long going through trees Olympic route for Biathlon,
