In Italy the first week and the last week of the ski season are the ‘free-ski‘ weeks.
At that time there is no guarantee of the snow on all of the slopes. To compensate the tourists the uncertainty of the weather conditions, ski-lift agencies made agreement with the hotel owners for special prices of skipasses.
In different regions the conditions may vary, but generally when tourist pays for the accommodation, he gets the free super skipass for the period of nights he stays at the hotel.
For example this year when stay at Dolomites you will get from the hotel skipass ‘Dolomiti superski’
when you stay in any of the days between the dates:
13.XII.2008 – 20.XII.2008
22.III.2009 – 29.III.2009
29.III.2009 – 05.IV.2009
In this season ending freeski period lasts for two weeks.
This is easy way to save some amount of money as weekly ski-pass costs round 150 Euro.
At the beginning of the season there is also fewer skiers, the slops are not overcrowded, but the weather.
If you decide to go for free ski time just check the weather before, usually the good conditions are
in the higher mountains, going down is worse, but every year is different.
This year in September is very cold, and the freeski trip can be a real money saver.
