Madonna di Campiglio is located in a valley between the Dolomites of Brenta and the Adamello-Presanella glaciers, at an altitude of 1550 m.a.s.l. Near the place that now is the centre of Madonna, at the end of 12th century a chapel to the Holy Virgin Mary and a mountain shelter were founded for numerous pilgrims and traders, who were carrying their goods between Po Plane and Valleys of Sole and Non. Later on the chapel became the part of a monastery, abandoned at the beginning of the 18th century.

The remain buildings were sold by the Cathedral of Trento to Giovanbattista Righi who build the first hotel there, at present called ‘Des Alpes’. In 1889 and 1894 Madonna di Campiglio has been visited by Princess Sissi and the Emperor Franz Josef due to the Österreicher family, who at that time transformed Madonna d C into a very stylish resort. The Ski-lifts Company of Madonna di Campiglio was founded in 1947, the first ski-lift connecting Madonna di Campiglio to Mount Spinale was built in 1948. Today there is a total of 60 km ski-runs, with 57 ski-lifts hourly capacity of 31,000 people. The ski area is also connected to Folgarida and Marilleva, making total of 150km. The near future will bring the lift connection to the 30 km of ski-runs in nearby Pinzolo.

50,000 sq m of snow park,several places for skating, 40 km for Nordic skiing, with Cross-Country Ski Centre which offers you 15 Km of tracks of different types, located about one km from the centre of Madonna in Campo Carlo Magno Pass.

The area that is covered by SUPERSKIRAMA DOLOMITI-ADAMELLO BRENTA adds a possibility to ski also in Folgarida-Marilleva,Ponte di Legno-Tonale-Presena, Pejo, Monte Bondone, Pinzolo, Andalo-Fai della Paganella, Folgaria-Lavarone. The special ski-bus connects Madonna di Campiglio with Tonale Pass area.
