Ski Italy

Merano or Meran ( 325 m ) is the small town located in the basin surrounded by the mountains over 3000 m above sea level at the point where Val Passiria meets Val Venosta and Val d’Ultimo. The narrow slopes get enough of sun to grow grapes for local red and white wine.
The mild climate has been appreciated by many artists including Franz Kafka and Ezra Pound, also by chess masters playing the world championship matches
( Akiba Rubinstein and later Anatoly Karpow ). The discovery of healing waters in 1930′s make the town popular alpine spa.

The ski resort Merano 2000 offers beautiful panoramic views of Alpine and Dolomite mountains, and the slopes between the three peaks of Sarentino Alps :
St.Oswald (2200 m) Kesselberg (2300m ) and Mittager (2260m). Two ski runs are illuminated during the night.
The runs lead down to the bottom lift station in Falzeben (1 680 m) which is also the lowest point of ski area.
The cable car takes the skiers from town of Merano to the middle of ski resort at Piffing ( 1950 m) where is also Ski Kindergarten and Alpin Bob.
Most of the accommodations are located near town of Merano at the level around 300 m. If you prefer more severe climate and more snow, you can choose the hamlets of Avelengo between 1200 and 1500 m, near the chair lift in Falzeben.

The resort Meran 2000 is a part of Ortler Skiarea, which covers 16 of ski resorts around Alto-Adige, including Val Senales and Solda all’Ortles.

Merano 2000 offers also perfect white snow of open spaces for off-piste alpine skiing and picturesque trails within the forest trees for ciaspole ( snow shoes) walks.
