Vipiteno (Sterzing), the capital of Alta Val d’Isarco is located several kilometres from the border with Austria at Brennero Pass, on the road connecting Mediterraean Sea with Central Europe.
Due to its strategic position it has been given numerous privileges in the past, and the mines of bronze and silver ore in the nearby valleys di Fleres and Ridanna
brought prosperity to the town during Middle Ages.

There are still in the centre of Vipiteno buildings from the 15th century: Tower Civica. Palazzo comunale, Parish church and several aristocracy residences build in following centuries.

The ski resorts Monte Cavallo starts near big shopping centre in Vipiteno with the bottom station of fast cable car which stops at the altitude of 1826 m above sea level.
Here on the slopes of mountain Monte Cavallo are several downhill runs served by three lifts, and the longest toboggan run in Alto Adige 9,6 km long, which goes through the natural terrain
down to the area of the bottom station of cable car.
