Open form end of May till November Passo Stelvio is the greatest summer ski resort in Europe.
Many of the top ski champions from different countries get the possibility to strengthen their endurance and prepare for the incoming season at the level over 3000 m above sea level.
Among the most popular figures on glacier Stelvio were practicing: Debora Compagnoni, Alberto Tomba and Marc Girardelli.
Ski resort Passo Stelvio got it’s name from Stelvio Pass connecting Alta Valtellina with Alto Adige. The top point of the road is 2578 m a.s.l. which makes it one of the highest located passes in Europe.
The road leading to the pass is very picturesque itself, with 34 turns from one side and 48 turns on the other.
During the winter the Pass Stelvio is closed due to snowfall conditions, and so the opening of the road makes the beginning of the ( summer ) skiing season in the area.
There are about 20km of pistes half of them blue, half red.
The slopes descend from Punta degli Spiriti (3450m) to reach the level 2760m near the Pass.
