According to the old Ladin legend Plan de Corones (Kronplatz) was the place where warrior queen of Fanes, Dolasilla got crowned with the magic gemstone “Rajëta”.
It was hard to get the better location, as from the top of Plan the Corones (2775m) one can admire one of the most wonderful panorama of whole range of Dolomites.
At the bottom of the mountain stretches Puster Valley (Val Pusteria/Pustetal) with main town Brunico (Bruneck 838 m), whose medieval old city still remains signs of splendour from the time, when Brunick was the main trade point on the way from Ausburg to Venice.
The villages S. Vigilio di Marebbe, Valdaora, S. Lorenzo di Sebato, Perca encompass Kronplatz, the other villages making the total number of 13 located here are :
Chienes, Falzes, Rasun in Valle Anterselva, Terento, Monguelfo, Tesido, Anterselva, Valle di Casies and Gais-Villa Ottone.
The mountain peek can be reached from Brunico via Riscone(Reischach), but the main part of the slopes occupy the north eastern part in Olag, Valdaora area.
Located on the opposite side Marrebbe features lifts to the southern slopes of Kronplatz, and to two other peaks Piz da Peres, and Piz de Plaies.
Piz de Plaies has been recently connected by the new lift ‘Piculin’ with the village Piccolino at the beginning of Alta Badia district.
From Piccolino near San Martino in Badia the snowbuses take the skiers to Alta Badia slopes connected with other resorts located around Sella.
The most advanced skiers can check their skills at 6 black ski runs, especially on
Hernegg 5,1 km long, with 1320 m of level, and angle up to 68%,
short, but very demanding and perfectly mantained 366 m of Pré da Peres Race,
and recently opened Piculin 2 km long.
If there is not enough of skiing during the day, artificial light enables downhill till 22.00 on Guttenberg and Panorama slopes.
