The commercial development of Val Passiria started with the Roman road built to connect Merano with Vipiteno via Passo Giovo.
At the end of 12th century there were found the large deposits of lead and zinc at the bottom of Monte Neve (2355 m). The mine which in 14th century employed c.a. 1000 miners has been operating till 1969, when has been closed and changed into the mining museum.

The small village Plan is situated in the heart of Gruppo di Tessa National Park , at the bottom of mountains Croda del Lago (3426 m) and Altissima (3482 m).

The ski resort Plan is oriented towards children, who under the age 10 can use lifts for free.
There are many of facilities prepared for the young ones such as
snowboard, snowpark and toboggan run for families.
There is also the school of ski and the resort bursts illuminated run Gampen (on Tuesdays )

The area around Plan is popular for alpine skiing, there are the trails between various peaks of Sarentine Alps.
Nearby Corvara in Val Passiria features the biggest artificial ice-climbing tower. Several ice structures 14-15 m high and 25 m wide are prepared for 18 simultaneous climbers,
starting from mid-December to end of February.
