San Martino di Castrozza

In : Dolomiti Superski

The town San Martino ( 1467 m ) got its name from medieval camaldolese convent dedicated to Saints Martino and Giuliano ( Julian ).
Nowadays only the small church is left from the buildings of the convent that once served as a hospice for the travelers who traversed Passo Rolle connecting Val di Fiemme with Primiero Valley.
The resort San Martino di Castrozza became popular due to British alpinists, who came here for fascinating range of Pale di San Martino at the end of 19th century.
The ‘Pale’ mountains and the well-known forest are the part of natural park ‘Parco Naturale Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino’. The Paneveggio forest is famous for its wood, once used by Stradivari family for making their instruments, nowadays by many manufactures for high-quality music loudspeakers.

Before WWI the town became recognised by the upper class of Austria-Hungarian Empire. In spite of the war damages San Martino has preserved the spirit and charm of ‘Alpine capital’, with many of the buildings from the beginning of 20th century.

The ski region includes lifts of Passo Rolle, which connects the area with Val di Fiemme and the rest of the Dolomite resorts.
There are two parts of ski area around San Martino. The first Colverde – Rosetta features the illuminated run Colvedere.
The second part is known as Carosello delle Malghe (Mountain Hut Circuit) with slopes of mountains Alpe Tognola (the highest Cima Tognola 2383m ) and Punta Ces 2227 m.

3 rings of Cross-Country runs ( 32 km ).

Snowparks:
