Famous for its fairy-tale landscape Santa Caterina (1.730 m) is the perfect place for a family holiday, good both for skiing and walking in the picturesque coniferous woodlands of Stelvio National Park. With the blue sky and the white snow on the woods make the small village really a ‘white paradise’ with tranquility and barely any trafic in the area.
‘Paradiso’ is also the name of the run, on which women competed for World Ski Championship in 1985, and since that time Santa Caterina regularly features many of winter sport events
recently FIS Alpine World Ski 2005 on the new piste named after first class ski champion Deborah Compagnoni, who practiced on Catarina’s snow slopes.

The development of Valfurva starts in 14th century when Santa Caterina became the important transit point on the trade road between Republic of Venice and County of Bormio.
in 1698 near the village there were discovered thermal springs with ‘aqua forte’ water rich in iron capable of curing various diseases.
Nowadays to get a treatment one can go to the neigbouring Bormio , where still work old thermes from Roman Era.

The ski resort is a part of Alta Valtellina consortium , and extended ski pass allows to ski in Santa Caterina, Livigno and Bormio with Oga-Valdidentro area.

Santa Caterina in numbers:

The slopes go down from Cima Sobretta (2.775 m) to centre of S.Caterina ( end at 1.738 m ) with programmed snow support from December to April.
For young children there is a secluded area Mini-club with a small baby skilift and snow games.
The 15 km cross-country track meadows between woods, good for first steps, but also for practicing on the professional level.
