
The name of ski resort ‘Skitour dei Forti’, which can be translated ‘Ski tour around the forts’ came from remains of First World War Austrian fortifications.
At the beginning of 20th century near Trident run the border between the Austo-Hungarian empire and new formed Italian Republic.
Abandoned after the wars the wall got deteriorated, but starting from 1960′s a lot of renovation work has been commenced, and today some of the old fortresses are open for visitors.
For military fans here are the names of the most important ones : Forte Dosso del Sommo (Martinella), Forte Sommo Alto (Stella d’Italia), Forte Cherle (Ortesino), Forte Belvedere (Lavarone) and Forte Campomolon.
The lovers of snow will find about 80 km of slopes in two joined ski resorts Folgaria Ski (52 km runs) and Ski Center Lavarone (20 km runs) around three municipalities of Folgaria, Lavarone and Luserna.Last year near Lavarone the new zone has been opened – ‘Alpe Fiorentini’ with stress on cross-country skiing and snowboard ( Jurassik Snowpark ).
Three centres for Nordic skiing:
Passo Coe (1600 m – 35 km of tracks), Forte Cherle (1400 m – 12 km of tracks) and Millegrobbe (1400 m – 35 km of tracks).
