Val d’Ultimo is the small 40 km long valley, which starts from Lana near Merano and goes to the heart of Stelvio National Park.
The area offers natural panorama of Ortler Alps with lower parts covered by spruce trees unspoiled by the presence of man.
The municipalities of Val’d Ultimo are :San Pancrazio (736 m) Santa Valburga (1190 m) San Nicolò (1256 m) Santa Gertrude (1501 m ).
The place for a ski resort has been chosen by the group of Italian sportsmen, who wanted to practice their skills in area not disturbed by the crowds of skiers.
At the sido of artificial Lago di Zoccolo there is village Pracupola ( Kuppelwies 1150 m ) from where the gondola lift goes to mountain Schwemmalm (2150 m).
Most of the pistes are modeled using natural curves of the slopes with minimal influence of the people, there are 18,5 km of runs, the red one from Mutegg (2625 m)
is one of the longests in the Alps ( 5 km long ).
The landscape tempts to just walk within the spruce forest and admire the nature, popular here is ciaspole (snowshoes) walking with 9 tracks especially designed for ciaspole, each track takes around one hour of walking.
One part of the cross-country tracks goes around the Lago di Zoccolo, although created in 1960’s for the hydro powerplant fits well into the surroundings.
