Val Senales

As one of few ski resorts in Italy, Val Senales offers the possibility to ski for the whole year, thanks to the lift, which goes to Glacier Grawand at 3210 m above sea level.
Val Senales ( Schnalstal ) is located near the border with Austria, and goes down from the Ötztal Alps to meet Val Venosta near Naturno ( close to Merano ).
From the Ötztal Alps got his name legendary man Ötzi, whose 4 000 years old mummy has been found on Similaun Mountain in the middle of the Val Senales Glacier.
Surrounded by vast meadows and old farms lies the most important village here – Madonna di Senales, with famous statue of Madonna from 14th century.
The other little villages are : Certosa, Monte Catarina, Vernago and Maso Corto ( 2010 m ) which is the central point of downhill skilifts area.

Summer Ski

From Maso Corto ( Kurzras ) the the cable car Funivia Ghacciao goes straight to the Glacier Grawand (about 3km in straght line from the place where Ötzi has been found).
Close to the top station of cable car there is the building of the highest situated hotel in the Alps ( 3212 m ) Hotel Grawand with Panorama restaurant and rent ski office.
Behind of the hotel’s building stretches the skiing area 2 red and 3 blue runs served by one chair lift, and two skilifts.

There are also 5 km for Nordic skiing here and one of the biggest snowparks located on glaciers.

The summer season lasts from 13 June till 20 November, at the beginning of November, depending on the snow conditions the rest of the runs in Val Senales resort is opened, giving the beginning of the winter season.

Winter Ski

During winter , when lower parts of ski resort are covered with the snow, there some more slopes added to the glacier area, from the glacier also starts the longest run Schmugglerabfahrt , 8 km of black run testing the skills of the skier with an altitude span of 1200 m.
Besides of the glacier, there are some more runs, chairlift Lazaun serves two picturesque red runs, partly in the forest, and partly in the open space.
Worth mention are also chairlifts Hintereis and Teufelsegg with two very demanding black runs 1,9 and 2,7 km long.

Val Senales is incorporated into Ortler Skiarena, which issues the special skipass connecting 16 neighbour ski resorts, like Merano 2000, Solda all’Ortles or Trafoi.
