Some 2000 years ago in the valley Alta Val Venosta ( Obervinschgau ) Romans built the road ‘via Claudia Augusta’ leading deep to the region of German tribes, today called Bavaria.
Through the centuries the road remain its importance and in Middle Ages several towns and villages were settled around Malles, on the crossroads leading to Passo Resia, Val Mustair and Passo dello Stelvio. Today one still can see the buildings from that period, St. Benedict Monastery, castle Castello del Principe (Churburg), churches of San Benedetto ( Glurns ) and of San Vito ( Malles) built on the old pagan place of worship .

The ski resort is named after the mountain Watles ( 2 557 m) the part of extensive mountain range Sesvenna on the border with Switzerland, near Upper Engandine valley.
The main village is Malles (Mals) and the lifts stations are located near the villages Pramajur and Slingia (Schlinig).
The resort is small, total 18 km of runs perfect for family weekends with picturesque slopes for off-piste skiing around rifugio Plantapatch. From the rifugio there is a start of toboggan run
4 km of natural slopes descending through the pine forest.
Many of facilities are prepared especially for children,
such as Fun Park Bubo, fun train, and there is a ski school with carving and snowboard teachers.
Wellness centre in Malles provides swimming pool, sauna and solarium, in sports centre there are facilities for tennis, bowling run and football.

The ski resort Watles is a part of big Ortler Skiarena with one skipass for 16 snow resorts, with possibility of ski in Val Senales, Solda all’Ortles, or located very close to Malles resorts Belpiano, Maseben and Malga s.Valentino.
