Val Gardena polishes its snow equipment for the opening of the winter season, which this year starts on Dec 5th. Skiers and snowboarders will enjoy fun on the slopes till or even a bit longer, weather permits.
Traditionally Sella Ronda arises the most interest, and so the skiers will be able to test benefits of new cable car at Passo Sella and Sasso Levante chairlift, which runs from 3 to 6 people, to ensure a faster transit through the Sella Ronda.
Soon after the season start Val Gardena is going to witness the the FIS Continental Cup-Opa, the second largest in Nordic skiing circuit, and a couple of days before Christmas the eyes of everybody will be focused on Saslong, a mythical downhill run, the place of FIS Alpine World Cup races. The amateurs will be able to compete with world champions of present and the past in Tyrol Gardenissima – the longest giant slalom in the world. These, who do not follow the daemons of speed can choose a bit slower and more distinctive sport – ciaspole – snowshoes walking, which also has its secial day in January caled la Val Gardena Ciasp.
There will be also plenty of cultural events in Val Gardena, during which tourists will be able to meet the local Ladin customs, folk clothes and taste the delicacies of local cuisine.
The Christmas market stands will deliver the souvenirs suitable for everybody.
Groeden is well known for its art of wood, the artists living here do not use machine patterns, but create unique pieces of art. Each sculpture is one if its kind, unique – hence the name of the group Unika. The wooden objects and cribs will be placed around the area and in the middle of winter visitors will be able to see the competitions in making sculptures, this time from… snow.
